The following is
adapted from a GlobalShop 2007 presentation by
Christian
Davies,vice president of retail design
strategy and creative director for FRCH Design
Worldwide.
FRCH started an image library 18 months ago. To stock
the image library, we implemented a new policy: Employees
are not allowed to come back from business trips without
images. My source of inspiration is retail design in
New York. Whether it's a Manhattan flagship store or
a store for a retailer that has a flagship elsewhere,
designers can pump it up in the Big Apple, thanks to
the energy of the city and the larger project budgets
for the area. So from my contributions to our image
library, here's what inspires me in New York.
Meaning in the Details

The Samsung
store is full of sweet details. |
New York’s
iconic imagery reflects the city’s energy
and sense of motion. |

Pavement
lights at the Mercer kitchen in Soho
represent a "found" urban detail. |
At Lancome,
even the makeup stations
are richly detailed
with flowers on the walls. |
