It provides a contemporary look allowing for a variety of merchandising options without compromising the building’s pristine flooring. Originating from a master Disney fixture design, these fixtures express a Polynesian theme through the materials, finishes, and exotic touches such as pontoon table legs, torches built into two- and three-ways, and hard-carved elements. For instance, many accents that appear to be bundled bamboo sticks are carved from solid wood. Hardwoods, exotic veneers, bamboo, and metal were chosen for their durability in the high-traffic store, while accent paints and decorations lend a lighter, artsy look.

Fixturing highlights a stylish backdrop, allowing products to stand out. Strong use of color and light provoke curiosity. Cylindrical wheeled tables with wraparound panels reminiscent of computer punched tape add a bit of nostalgia without diminishing the modernity. Optimal use of forms and lighting effects in the fixtures are achieved due to studies of fixture prototypes in resin, metal, and polycarbonate. Plexiglass, leather, Corian solid surfacing, and solid wood round out the look. Fixtures emphasizing oversized promotional panels reinforce branding.

Fluid shapes represent captured movement. A free-form shoe wall sports 220 attachment points for myriad merchandising combinations. Technogel seating pads on MDF benches, hand-finished in eight coats of pearlescent lacquer, mimic athletic-shoe cushioning. Made from a single mold and used at 180-degree angles to each other, curved metacrylic shields at both ends of each freestanding garment fixture lift and sustain the weight of the stainless steel. Hand-bent aluminum strips cover 15-ft. columns and the rollout cashwrap.

Small products and information are presented clearly on streamlined minimalist black woodgrain fixtures topped in white translucent LightBlocks, a strong, durable, light-transmitting plastic. Cell phones are tethered to central tables. Locking stainless-steel cabinet doors securing inventory and translucent glass partitions flanking the “exploration” stations augment the futuristic ambiance. A long millwork cabinet with groups of IMO Advisor monitors facilitates selection of a wireless service plan in a format marrying traditional retail and online shopping.

A curved wall fixture surfaced in high-gloss laminate showcases brushes in individual holes, while overstock in this open-sell format is neatly arranged in vertical transparent cubbies below. Conveniently powered in a barely noticeable plug system, curling irons command attention behind blue plexiglass that shows flair without limiting access. Rows of bottled product on shelves above keep the eye down on the merchandise. The system organizes a wide product selection and simplifies purchasing decisions.

Created with a short lead time, these emotionally appealing acrylic fixtures epitomizing the classic M&M candies provide larger-than-life brand reinforcement. Using both the round shape and the vivid colors of the confections they showcase, the fixtures evoke the personality of the brand’s trademark characters. Slatwall backing in the recessed niches enable the shelves to be adjusted to accommodate a variety of products, while the structures are rugged enough to withstand the abuse of pint-sized customers.

Eyewear floats in an illuminated void of matte white plaster and is spotlighted in wall display fixtures, which conceal three types of lighting and product storage. The effect draws all eyes to the products. Barrier-free fixtures encourage customers to try the glasses on. A cylindrical greeting counter displays vintage merchandise in bowls carved into its surface to appear part of the wall display broken away to engage the public. The counter’s shape and placement direct customers back to the wall displays.

Anchoring the rear of the surf/skate/snow apparel store is this footwear wall measuring 25 ft. long, 9 ft. high, and 4 ft. deep. Athletic shoes in “course” cutouts, internally lit in sky blue, entice the target 14- to 21-year-old shoppers. Incorporating the logo for brand reinforcement is a surface of Koa wood, a Hawaiian hardwood used for carved ocean-going canoes. Despite its uniqueness, the fixture is flexible for adaptation to the brand’s 800-plus existing and new stores.

Stainless-steel open-ended display cubes lined with zebrawood showcase folded apparel as if in television screens on contemporary white lacquer counters. Sinuous curves enhance the fun and sexiness of the store’s ambiance. Versatile as well as arresting, the displayers also allow for the brand-enhancing display of T-shirts emblazoned with the ubiquitous rabbit ears. Stacked in two and three, the boxes sit at angles that further suggest TV sets turned to view, perhaps, the Playboy Channel.
