Establishing an ethereal quality, the rear wall draws shoppers into the store with its trend-setting eyewear floating in a brightly lit background. Human forms wearing eyeglasses morph from the rear wall into the space. High-gloss paint lightens the fixtures and reflects design elements to make the 1,022-sq.-ft.-store appear larger. The wood floor continues up walls and onto the ceiling, minimizing transitions and providing a contrasting backdrop for intense illumination in the fixtures and translucent ceiling.

Simple, modern, and acoustically and visually quiet, this space enables players to experience the feel, sound, and tone of guitars displayed accessibly, yet like artwork. Soundproofed to minimize disruption to the community, the 2,450-sq.-ft. new store, a premiere for the brand, doubles as concert space. With millwork composed of 1-1/2-in. rough maple strips inspired by guitar components and with other materials chosen as textural contrast to the guitar finishes, the store stresses the instruments’ sensate qualities.

A cantilevered mezzanine and a spiral of sculptural ribbons unfurling to snake out around the showroom create intimacy for designer kitchen collections in the high-ceilinged space. With one strand highlighting the company’s signature orange, the ribbons, made of four layers of fabric over an aluminum skeleton, generate movement, defining areas while providing cohesiveness. A black ceiling tilted 2 ft. lower in the back corner increases the perspective, opening up the 1,900-sq.-ft. space to emphasize the collections.
