|
Dylan s Candy Bar conveys a hip, fun, artistic view of candy. It uses the icons of the chocolate bunny, the lollipop tree, and the translucent candy steps to lead the customer through the store and provides a textural approach to help the customer fully experience the product. Missing are the large old-fashioned barrels of bulk candy, a reminder that this is not your Grandma s candy store.

This 60,000 sf prototype used a circular layout, natural lighting from skylights, and varied fixture, floor, and wall materials to create an open and inviting environment. Service counters are located around the perimeter of the store to guide customers through it. Center-store items are strategically located in the middle of the store. Long service counters with rounded, glass-front cases offer enhanced customer service and are accessible from either side.

Sunoco A Plus conveys that good quality food is served here, while still meeting the convenience demands of the existing Sunoco customer. An Italian food market with a convenience component was added. The utilization of a 26 high ceiling and window canopies embellish the marketplace feel. Additionally, each primary product category has its own fa‡ade, allowing for individualized expression, easy wayfinding, and the ability to change each out independently as needed.

Sendik s 50,000 sf format maintains the quality, service and warmth for which the upscale gourmet retailer is known despite being 2 1/2 times larger than its traditional footprint. The ceilings were lowered to make the space personal, except in the produce and wine departments, where it was exposed to create contrast and a market flavor. Semi-transparent scrims in the produce department depict the Sendik s family members at their daily tasks, reinforcing freshness and family honesty.
