From cut-out ceilings that wave through aisles to serpentine display cases that flow just beneath them to the rounded endcap shelving, the linear store is full of energy and motion. Oval-shaped pods near the store entrance conceal storage for 900 shopping carts; a jewel-like, glass-enclosed island highlights a wine department; and a series of curving paths break up seating in the 51,000-sq.-ft. food court. With 11-ft.-high ceilings, a series of light-colored, floating planes suspended below the exposed ceiling structure, which is painted in dark colors, create a sense of spaciousness. Without natural light, energy-efficient metal halide and fluorescent light fixtures create theatrical focuses in the space.

Providing “health-conscious, eco-friendly eating for a healthy planet,” this store emphasizes elements of nature throughout the intimate space. Bright, nature-inspired colors evoke fresh and organic, and stainless steel and glass service areas allow the colorful foods to pop. Unfinished hickory wraps around the store from the floors to the walls to the ceiling, visually lengthening the small interior space in a clean design befitting the brand. High-efficiency fluorescent lighting, soy-based inks on printed materials, and recycled paper products continue the green theme.ÿ

The relocated restaurant now occupies 3,500-sq.-ft. of space and accommodates 100 more people in an area that is bright, modern, and inviting. Bold colors are prominent against the signature black-and-white theme of the retailer. Loose seating of reconstituted wood contrasts against the back-lighted banquette seating in vivid orange and white, as slashes of bright, grass-green acrylic play off the white-on-white waved plaster-textured walls.

Blending traditional restaurant interiors with sculptural features, this casual restaurant is filled with 450 hand-painted copper tree clusters whose color and material enhance the atmosphere, connecting the corridor and bringing traffic into the space. A 25-ft.-long curved bench of hand-polished and hand-applied aluminum compound provides a high-profile and dramatic seating presentation. Curved, trey ceilings incorporate various lighting to bounce off the copper, aluminum, and luminescent coatings.ÿÿ
